LETTER OF THE DAY - That 'Dudus' case
The Editor, Sir: There is much talk that additional evidence, in addition to the indictment and the special agent's affidavit, should be adduced before accused, Christopher 'Dudus' Coke, be made to answer charges in the United States. Federal prosecutions are uniformly governed by the Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure.

NOTE-WORTHY - Those Bill Johnson polls
Scientific research, or any research for that matter, is supposed to comply with certain criteria: it must be sufficient; it must be representative of the target population for it to be an accurate, valid and reliable poll.

BCJ clarifies Flow position
The Editor, Sir: The Financial Gleaner's article of August 28, 'Flow's pace slows: But Broadcasting Commission okay with network delay', conveyed the impression that the Broadcasting Commission was unconcerned and treated lightly the delays that its licensee, Flow, is experiencing.

Offer six-month gun amnesty
The Editor, Sir: It is due time for the Government to arrest the crime situation in Jamaica. The Government needs to offer a gun amnesty for about six months for all illegal firearms to be carried in to the relevant authorities, and after that any one caught with a gun that is illegal should be tried and convicted as a murderer and therefore face the death penalty.

Economics of the conch industry
The Editor, Sir: Jamaica has the distinction of having some 70 per cent of the world's supply of queen conch. The muscular flesh of a part of this animal is regarded as a delicacy by peoples in places such as France ... Yet, the returns to Jamaica from the export of this commodity are almost infinitesimal.

Dr Muriel Lowe - public servant par excellence
The Editor, Sir: It is with a deep sense of pride and joy that I learn through one of your recent publications that the award of the Order of Jamaica (OJ) has been awarded to Jamaica's medical icon, leading chest specialist and retired Senior Medical Officer (SMO) of the National Chest Hospital, Dr Muriel Lowe-Valentine.
